Spillern
The Weinviertel market town of Spillern is located between Korneuburg and Stockerau - on the northern edge of the Danube region. The village is a popular family vacation destination and an ideal starting point for hikes - e.g. to the Rohrwald forest with its adventurous Swedish caves, to the Waschberg and Michelberg mountains or through the pristine Au region.
Spillern: sights & interesting facts
In 1996, the millennium year, a village walk was laid out which leads past the most important sights of Spillern: the Roman Catholic parish church from 1966, the lovingly furnished fire department and local history museum as well as the historical weapons collection in the community center.
The romantic wine cellar lane in Spillern is also impressive: there are 19 buildings over a length of around 250 meters.
Of particular interest to horse lovers: the local Marienhof stud farm is dedicated to breeding the old Kladruber horse breed. These noble animals, which were the declared favorites of Emperor Rudolf II in the 16th century, are particularly elegant and large-framed. They are considered the oldest cultivated horse breed in Central Europe.
