Waldhausen

At Waldhausen, the name says it all: the idyllic community in the Zwettl district invites you to enjoy relaxed explorations and pleasurable hikes - in the midst of untouched forests and romantic spots on the rushing banks of the Purzelkamp. The Loschberg is the highest elevation in the Waldviertel village at 800 meters.

Natural spectacles in Waldhausen: from the tumbling Kamp to the Feuerzeichen mountain

The Purzelkamp has its source below Spielberg and Traunstein - and flows into the Ottensteiner Kamp reservoir below Rastenberg and Rastenfeld. Its wild and romantic banks are a wonderful place to hike along, enjoy a rest and listen to the water. The Loschberg in turn offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Waldviertel landscape - in good weather, as far as the Jauerling, Ötscher and Schneeberg. Incidentally, in times gone by, the small mountain was considered a so-called chalk fire mountain, i.e. a signal station used by means of smoke and fire signals.

Hiking & stroking alpacas: excursion tips for Waldhausen

Waldhausen offers numerous great hiking trails - such as the five-hour Waldhausen circular hiking trail from the sports field, the entertaining themed trail of the Wiesenreith eco-mile or parts of the trekking tour of the Waldviertler Kulturpfad(over 100 kilometers in total). An extra animal tip for a visit to Waldhausen is the Crooked Creek Ranch run by the Rauner family. Their alpacas, horses and other animals are always happy to receive visitors - by appointment.
