Stadtgemeinde Zwettl

  • Hiker quality seal

Zwettl is nestled in the heart of the Waldviertel - between five hills and around the confluence of the Zwettl and Kamp rivers. The flair of Baroque and Renaissance buildings combined with the pristine Waldviertel landscape make the municipality a popular vacation and excursion destination.

Zwettl was founded by the Kuenringers, and the town was first mentioned in documents in 1139. Since this time, Cistercian monks have lived and worked in Zwettl Abbey, whose magnificent gardens and premises are a popular place to visit and tour today.
