Half-day and day cycling tours

The easiest half-day tours are made up of stages: e.g. the Thayarunde in the designated stages (e.g. stage 1 from Göpfritz-Raabs with approx. 21 km and stage 3 from Slavonice to Waidhofen with approx. 30 km) or easy sections on the Triesting-Gölsental cycle path (Gölsen: Traisen-Hainfeld / Triesting: Kaumberg-Leobersdorf). The Römer Tour (approx. 2.5 hours) and the Pielachtal cycle path (approx. 4 hours) are also suitable for a half-day tour.

On the Traisental cycle route, the 4 km climb from Kernhof to Gscheid is the most demanding section. On the Piestingtal cycle path, the extension to Rohr im Gebirge is a sporting challenge with gradients of up to 15%. The Triesting-Gölsental cycle path offers challenges and opportunities for mountain biking, especially around Altenmarkt.
 

Yes, several tours can be easily combined by train/bus:

• Triesting-Gölsental cycle route: arrival/departure by train via Leobersdorf (along the southern railway line) or via Traisen from St. Pölten
• Römer Tour: starts and ends at Bruck a. d. Leitha railway station
• Pielachtal cycle path: by train to Melk (along the western railway line) or to/from Loich station along the Mariazell railway line
• Traisental cycle route: return option by Mariazell railway from Mariazell or by train from Traisen or Lilienfeld; in the cycling season also by bike hitchhiker
• Piestingtal cycle path: Arrival/departure by train to/from Felixdorf along the southern railway line
• Thayarunde: Göpfritz an der Wild railway station or cycle taxi service

• The Thaya route is divided into 45% newly asphalted cycle path and 55% unused side roads.
• The Piestingtal cycle path is asphalted and signposted throughout from Sollenau to Gutenstein.
• On the Römer Tour, non-asphalted paths may be impaired after rain.
• Most of the Pielachtal cycle path runs on tarmac. Caution: The cycle path crosses the main road several times.
• The Triesting-Gölsental cycle path runs mostly away from busy roads and is mostly tarmac between Hainfeld and Traisen.
• The Traisental cycle route is mainly tarmac and flat from Traismauer to Lilienfeld.

A helmet, (sports) goggles, rain/wind protection, water bottle, muesli bars or fruit as a snack between rides, bike lock, a small "first-aid kit" (e.g. first-aid kit, sun cream) and, if necessary, a map or mobile phone are recommended for every bike ride.

For culture "along the way", the Roman Tour(Carnuntum, Heidentor, Haydn's birthplace, wine cellar lane "Hoher Weg") and the Pielach Valley cycle path(Melk Abbey, ride on the Mariazell railway, Lake Ebersdorf) are particularly suitable.
