Kunstmeile Krems

State Gallery, Kunsthalle, Cartoon Museum, Forum Frohner, Dominikanerkirche and Artothek are all the venues on the Art Mile along the Danube.

Exhibitions well worth seeing by Robin Rhode or Patricia Piccinini, Wachau and Fix und Foxi & Co. are scheduled to be shown in spring and summer 2020 along the Art Mile Krems.

Kunsthalle Krems is celebrating its 25th birthday in 2020: South African Robert Rhode has been invited to show his performative graphic work in the exhibition ‘Memory is the Weapon’ from 14 March to 21 June 2020 to mark this special occasion. Patricia Piccinini lives in Australia and in ‘Embracing the Future’, she will be displaying her famous part-animal, part-human, part-machine sculptures.

It has also been 25 years since Austria became part of the European Union – this was clearly a source of much inspiration for cartoonists such as Manfred Deix, Gerhard Haderer, Margit Krammer, Michael Pammesberger, Erich Sokol or Wolfgang Ammer, whose work will be shown in the exhibition ‘Tu felix Austria… zeichne’ from 16 February. Who isn't a fan of Schlümpfe or Lucky Luke plus many other original characters from the comic classics of the last decade? They will be on display in the Cartoon Museum Krems from 15 March to 26 October 2020 in ‘Fix & Fox XXL’.

Another anniversary worth celebrating is the 20-year anniversary of the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Wachau, which will be the site of an exhibition with almost 500 pieces ranging from the 18th to the middle of the 20th century, including icons of Wachau painting. From 16 May, the show will look an artistic and historical look at a thousand years of the cultural landscape. The comprehensive collection of the Viennese lawyer Ernst Ploil will be the first major exhibition in the State Gallery of Lower Austria in 2020 dedicated to ‘Schiele – Rainer – Kokoschka: Giving Order to The World’. It will be on display from 28 March.
