Above and below ground delights: Wine Route Weinviertel Veltlinerland

The Veltlinerland area of the Weinviertel inspires on all levels, and offers pure unadulterated fun. How can anyone resist that?

Public tastings in wine cellars, guided wine hikes and extensive vineyard bike tours – and of course one or two excellent glasses of Grüner Veltliner – await visitors to Veltlinerland. Find out about our favourite tours here.

168 km of pure wine enjoyment: The Veltlinerland Weinstrasse wine route

The Veltinerland can be found where the Weinviertel is most typical and the hills are particularly soft, and where lush vineyards and idyllic farming villages look right at home. It stretches across the northern Weinviertel, and calls highly enjoyable places such as the historic wine city of Poysdorf, the traditional wine-producing region of Falkenstein, the Therme Laa hotel and the cultural hub of Mistelbach its own. Even the 491 m-high Buschberg, the highest mountain in the Weinviertel, is at home here. And as the name suggests, wonderful Grüner Veltliner, which will make every wine lover’s heart beat faster, can be found in this area

Experience wine. And explore. Our tour tips

As well as the extensive rally route, the Veltliner cycle tour is one of our favourite routes in the Weinviertel. The start and finish point is the idyllic Poysdorf, the City of Wine. For leisure cyclists like us, this is a demanding full-day tour; but thanks to the many rest areas and spectacular views of the neighbouring Czech Republic from the Galgenberg in Wildendürnbach, it is easy to combine the tour with a visit to the Staatz castle ruins. We can thoroughly recommend the Falkenflug (Falcon Flight) tours to hikers. Particularly impressive is the Little Falcon Flight tour, which leads along dreamy paths and through magnificent scenery in and around the wine-producing town of Falkenstein. The falcon tells exciting stories about the past and the innovative visions of the new generation of winemakers along the way. You will quickly reach your destination via attractions such as vineyard huts, picnic areas, a show cellar, and a vineyard maze.

Where grapes become wine: Our insider tips

We still have one of our secret favourites among the Falcon Flight tours to tell you about: the 3-Schwestern-Weg (3 Sisters Trail). The reason why we like it so much is simple: it leads from wine cellar lane to wine cellar lane. You also get to visit three towns. From the picturesque vineyards in Herrnbaumgarten, we go to the idyllic Poysdorf and on to the imposing ruins in Falkenstein. We would like to finish with two more tips for vinophiles: Every Wednesday, the wine cellars of Falkenstein open their doors for guided tours. The wine cellars of Poysdorf do the same every Tuesday and Saturday.
