MICHELIN Guide in Lower Austria

A MICHELIN star stands for excellent cuisine, while the Green Star is awarded for sustainability and environmental awareness. The Bib Gourmand recognises restaurants that offer particularly good value for money.

Restaurants are visited anonymously by MICHELIN testers and evaluated according to criteria such as product quality, creativity, taste and value for money. 

The MICHELIN Guide does not award points, but rather Michelin stars (one, two or three) for culinary performance based on criteria such as product quality, cooking technique, taste, creativity and consistency. 

One star means "worth a stop", two stars "worth a detour" and three stars "worth a journey".

Guide MICHELIN stars and Gault&Millau toques both rate excellent cuisine, but focus on different aspects:

• The MICHELIN Guide awards 1 to 3 stars and evaluates culinary performance based on criteria such as product quality, cooking technique, taste, creativity and consistency. The testers work anonymously, and stars are recognised worldwide as a symbol of top-class cuisine.
• Gault&Millau awards points and 1 to 5 toques and focuses on cooking technique, creativity and product quality, especially in regional markets. Testing is often done openly, and toques are an important award, especially in German-speaking countries.
