Otter

Mountain summit

Description

Between Semmering, Rax and Schneeberg on the one hand and the Bucklige Welt on the other, the Otter rises up. Of its three peaks, the highest reaches 1,358 meters. The largely unwooded summit offers beautiful views of the Semmering region as well as the Vienna Basin. Gloggnitz lies at the northern foot of the mountain range, and the Feistritz Valley to the south.

The Otter peaks:

  • Großer Otter: 1358 meters
  • Middle Otter: 1.297 meters
  • Small Otter: 1.327 meters

Location
Semmering area, Central Alps

Hikes on the Otter

The Großer Otter can be easily hiked on unmarked trails from Schlagl or Otterthal. The narrow ridges of the Mitter Otter and Kleiner Otter peaks can be reached via trails.

A popular Otter hike leads from Trattenbach - or optionally from the pilgrimage site Maria Schutz - via the alpine inn Kummerbauerstadl to the summit.

Extra tip: Particularly striking about the Otter are its many caves - including the Otterkluft and the Otterhöhle, as well as numerous other shaft-like caves.
