From the moor to the plateau

Brilliant views, one of the last high moors in Europe, and an open air museum with a timber rafting facility characterise the tour.

From the amazing views from the Hochreit plateau, an exciting themed trail leads through one of the last high moors in Europe. A unique landscape, which is crying out to be discovered.

Excitement and relaxation in Göstling

Between Hochkar and Dürrenstein is the dream-like Göstling, where you can relax on sun loungers (called “Enzos”), in the playground, or in the salt water bath. The Erlebniswelt Mendlingtal (Mendlingtal open air museum) is particularly worth visiting. With the help of wooden walkways, you can explore the only functioning timber rafting facility in central Europe, and discover exciting interactive stations along the gorge path.

Alpine plateau and petting zoo in the nature reserve

The promising Hochreit plateau is situated at a height of 900m, and is a hiking paradise for the whole family. Passing through vast landscapes and lush meadows, you will reach the 300-year-old Ablass farm at the heart of the nature reserve, where strenuous hikers are rewarded with hearty delicacies, while the kids get their money’s worth at the petting zoo.

Unique flora and fauna in the high moorland

The impressive Leckermoos High Moor is home to several endangered animal and plant species. Here you will encounter the boloria eunomia butterfly – a relict from the Ice Age – and intact peat bogs. Explore one of the last and most beautiful high moors in Europe on this exciting themed trail.
