Ötscher

The “Austrian Grand Canyon” surprises hikers with stunning vistas, demanding ascents and dripstone formations such as Madonna.

Ötscher is and will always remain the flagship of Lower Austria. Ötscher-Tormäuer delights visitors with hikes of all difficulty levels plus extraordinary natural landmarks, from dripstone cave to waterfall. This nature park has so much to offer.

Scenic surprises
Ötscher, a Mostviertel landmark and at 1,893 m, the region’s highest peak, offers numerous ascents and sights. Rauher Kamm in Naturpark Ötscher-Tormäuer is especially exciting as one of the most demanding ridge ascents in Lower Austria and impressive for more than just fantastic views.

Special meet & greet
The park has an imposing dripstone cave with formations such as Madonna, the Three Magi or Flamingo. Our lodging tip: the rustic Schutzhaus Vorderötscher, an alpine hut, reachable only on foot and an ideal base for visiting the Wienerbruck hydropower station and other local sights. The two Enzo benches make this a welcome place to linger.

Austrian Grand Canyon
Ötschergräben is a rift valley you can explore on a variety of tours. The alpine hut is a perfect base for exploring Gemeindealpe and the Lassingfall waterfall. Easy ascent on the Ötscher lift from Lackenhof. Great view of the Iron Ötscher Bear with the telescope on Hüttenkogel.
